Job Description
With unique campuses in Vancouver, Burnaby and Surrey, SFU has deep roots in partner communities throughout the Province of British Columbia and around the world.
SFU now seeks to appoint a Vice-Provost and Dean, Graduate Studies. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the successful candidate will serve as a member of SFU’s senior administration with shared responsibility for the overall strategic leadership and management of the institution.
Building on the strong foundation that SFU has established in academic and research excellence, this position will play a critical role in long-term strategic planning of graduate education at SFU. The Vice-Provost and Dean is responsible for overseeing graduate programming; leading innovation in graduate program development; promoting and ensuring equity, diversity and inclusivity in graduate programs and services; advocacy for financial support for graduate students; ensuring outstanding supervisory experiences for graduate education; providing effective management of graduate registration, records, admissions, and awards; and leading quality assurance processes.
The Vice-Provost and Dean is also responsible for the overall administration of SFU’s Graduate General Regulations, chairs the Senate Graduate Studies Committee, and participates on other committees as required by university policy.
Graduate education is critical to the success of our academic, research, and engagement missions. As an influential member of the Provost’s senior leadership team, the Vice-Provost and Dean serves to enhance the learning, wellness, and success of graduate students, and ensures that graduate studies is recognized by the institution in decision making and priority setting.
The appointment is based on a five-year term, which is renewable, with an expected start date of July 1, 2023 or as agreed upon with the successful candidate.
An executive search is being undertaken by SFU’s search partner, Perrett Laver.

Applications should consist of a cover letter and curriculum vitae. These can be uploaded at http://www.perrettlaver.com/candidates quoting the reference number 6296.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
