VISITING LECTURER(S) IN ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
FALL 2023 – SPRING 2024
Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for the position of part-time Visiting Lecturer in Environmental Analysis. We need to staff three courses: EA10: Introduction to Environmental Analysis and EA86: Environmental Justice in the Fall 2023 semester, and a third course to be determined in the Spring 2024 semester. EA10 examines the history of environmental change over the past century, the environmental ramifications of economic and technological decisions, lifestyles and personal choice, and the need to evaluate environmental arguments critically. Students consider the intersections of economic development, population growth, and environmental resources through course texts across media, class discussion, and interactive lectures. EA86 critically examines the Environmental Justice movement in the United States: its history, central claims, frameworks, and methods for analyzing race, class, and the environment, environmental justice campaigns, and ongoing struggles. Students learn to evaluate the race and equity implications of environmental harms and discuss approaches to counteract environmental injustice.
Ph.D. preferred. Evidence of successful teaching experience is required, along with vita, statement of interest, course proposal/syllabus, and two letters of reference. Please submit to [interfolio link]
The salary for this position will range from $24,300 to $27,000 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
Review of applications will begin on June 5 and continue until the position is filled. For more information, contact Kimberly Drake at kdrake@scrippscollege.edu.
