VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN MEDIA STUDIES

FALL 2023 – SPRING 2024

Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Media Studies with a focus in integrated digital media for the 2023-24 academic year, with the possibility of renewal. This full-time position is for a practitioner and will support the Digital/Electronic track of the media studies major at the Claremont Colleges.

Candidates should be artists or researchers with practices grounded in creative and critical approaches to software, hardware, interfaces, scripting, or networked media; interactive media arts; physical computing; animation; games; and/or extended reality. We are particularly interested in practitioners whose work engages critical, historical, and/or theoretical aspects of technology and culture, and who have proficiency with current industry tools used by artists, programmers, and designers. The candidate should hold a terminal degree in media, art, or a related field, and have an active record of artistic or arts-related practice, technical experimentation, and/or scholarship in their areas of research. Candidates with substantial professional experience are welcome to apply but should have some experience teaching at the collegiate level. Preference will be given to applicants with a commitment to the College’s goal of improving higher education for underrepresented students.

The position is a 2 -3 course load, with four production courses to be taught at the introductory and intermediate levels, and one section of Introduction to Digital Media Studies, a core theoretical introduction for the Intercollegiate Media Studies program. The salary for this position will range from $59,513 to $66,125 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
