TENURE TRACK POSITION IN EAST ASIAN ART HISTORY
Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Art History, with an area of specialization in the history of East Asian art, architecture, or design of any period. The teaching load is four courses per year (2/2) plus senior thesis advising. Survey courses in the arts of China, the arts of Japan, as well as upper-division seminars will be offered in the Program in Art History at the Claremont Colleges. Participation in the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities program at Scripps College is also expected. Faculty will have the opportunity to teach with the collection at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, which stewards a rich array of historical and contemporary art including Japanese prints and illustrated books from the 15th through the 21st centuries; Chinese paintings and decorative arts dating back six hundred years; a photography collection with examples spanning the history of the medium; strong holdings in contemporary ceramics; and a growing collection of contemporary art by women and artists of color. Ph.D. degree must be completed by the position’s start date and college teaching experience is required.

The salary for this position will range from $81,900 to $91,000 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
