Assistant Professor of Physics, Tenure Track
Oxford College, a unique two-year liberal arts undergraduate college within Emory University, invites applications for a tenure-track position in physics at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2025. We seek applications from candidates who can contribute to the educational and intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service.
Prospective candidates will have a commitment to excellence in teaching as well as engagement in an active research program with the potential to involve undergraduates. The Oxford Science Building, which opened in 2016, is designed to promote student-faculty collaboration, scholarship, and innovative teaching in STEM. The Oxford College Center for Teaching and Scholarship supports faculty with mentoring in teaching and professional development.
The successful candidate will primarily teach courses that contribute to the introductory and sophomore-level physics curriculum and will have the opportunity to develop other courses for majors and non-majors, including a first-year discovery seminar. The teaching expectations for this position are two lectures and two labs, or the equivalent, each semester. In collaboration with our colleagues in the Physics Department of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the physics faculty will have an opportunity to contribute to the future vision of the undergraduate program in physics. We anticipate that this person’s work will directly influence the growth, focus, and culture of the physics program at Oxford College.
Qualifications:
Required –
A Ph.D. in physics, or a sub-discipline, completed by August 2025. Advanced ABD candidates are also encouraged to apply.
Desirable –
Candidates with experience in inquiry-based teaching and student-centered learning are particularly encouraged to apply.
Who we are:
Located 36 miles from Emory University’s Atlanta Campus, Oxford College is one of Emory University’s four schools partnering in undergraduate education. Oxford College provides 975 first- and second-year students of high academic profile an intensive liberal-arts program for the first two years of their Emory bachelor’s degree. We are interested in candidates with a commitment to working with a remarkably diverse student body in an inclusive learning community that values excellence in teaching and close student-faculty interaction. Applications from women and historically underrepresented minorities are particularly welcome.
