Job Description

To apply for this job please visit http://www.owu.edu.

The department of English at Ohio Wesleyan University seeks a specialist in multiethnic American literature with additional expertise in the teaching of first-year writing and composition.  This is a full-time, tenure-track position. Literature courses will include classes in multiethnic and African-American literature, as well as classes that draw upon the candidate’s area(s) of expertise. We are especially interested in candidates who possess additional strengths that would enhance our department’s existing curriculum (e.g., film, creative writing, unrepresented periods and genres). First-year writing courses incorporate common elements but may be designed in accordance with the candidate’s own interests. Faculty will have the chance to affiliate with interdisciplinary programs such as Africana, Gender, & Identity Studies, Film Studies, Environment & Sustainability, and Public Health, creating opportunities for collaboration with students and colleagues from across the university.

This job is part of a cluster of positions with which Ohio Wesleyan seeks to further diversify its curriculum and faculty. This faculty cohort will join an educational community that values equity and interdisciplinarity and fosters close working relationships with students through our signature program in experiential learning, The OWU Connection. Incoming faculty will be provided with mentoring, professional development funds, and opportunities to connect with faculty across the Ohio 5 and GLCA consortia.  For more information about the cluster, please visit http://www.owu.edu/joinOWUfaculty. For more information about Academic Affairs and its commitment to DEI, please visit https://owu.edu/dei.

Responsibilities:

*  A six-course annual teaching load (3/3), two of which will be in first-year writing
*  Engaging in a consistent and focused line of research
*  Advising students in their academic journey
*  Providing service to the department, university, and profession
*  Assisting in curriculum development, revision, and evaluation

Qualifications:

*  Ph.D. in hand by August 2024. Candidates from interdisciplinary and/or fields adjacent to English are welcome.
*  Record of successful college-level teaching experience and scholarly activity
*  Candidates with experience teaching and mentoring students from marginalized  backgrounds (including students of color, first-generation, and LGBQTIA+ students), and/or candidates skilled in pedagogical practices that promote classroom inclusivity are especially encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements:

*  A letter of application;
*  Curriculum vitae;
*  Statement of teaching philosophy;
*  A 1-page DEI statement that describes your experience and/or approach to supporting students from underrepresented groups, including examples of ways you have intentionally addressed diversity, equity, and inclusion in your classroom.
Please submit all materials via http://www.owu.edu/joinOWUfaculty.  Transcripts, reference letters, and additional materials may be requested at a later time and can be sent directly to facultyjobs@owu.edu.  Please make sure to include “English” in the subject line.

Review of applications will begin on October 13 and continue until the position is filled.  Questions may be directed to Dr. Mark Allison, search chair (maalliso@owu.edu).
