A 9-month benefit, non-tenure-eligible, benefit- eligible, temporary position in the English Department, located on the Flagstaff Mountain campus.
The Literature faculty in the English Department at Northern Arizona University invite applications for a Visiting Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor, non-tenure-track eligible, beginning August 2023. This is a full-time, 9-months, non-tenure track, benefit-eligible, temporary position with an 80 percent teaching (4/4) and 20 percent service load at the Flagstaff campus.
Responsibilities for this position primarily include teaching U.S. Multi-ethnic Literature, with expertise in two or more of the following areas: African American literature, U.S. Latine, Indigenous, and/or U.S. Southwest literature. Courses may include; English 245: Intro to U.S. Multi-Ethnic Literature; ENG 247: Introduction to African American Literature; ENG 346W: Literature of the Southwest; English 345: Survey of U.S. Multiethnic Literature; ENG 445: Seminar in U.S. Multi-Ethnic Literature; and ENG 243: American Literature from 1865 to Present, with the possibility to teach other courses as needed in the Literature program. Additional professional development and service expectations will be determined in consultation with the Chair of English.

Minimum qualifications for Visiting Lecturer:
• M.A. in English, Literature, or closely related field in hand by August 1, 2023.
• 1 year of experience teaching university-level literature and/or writing courses.
Minimum qualifications for Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor:
• PhD in English, Literature, or closely related field in hand by August 1, 2023.
• 1 year of experience teaching university-level literature and/or writing courses.
• Evidence of demonstrated commitment and successful interactions with people from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, national origins, disabilities, age, veteran status, religious or political beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities and expression, and lived experiences.
• Evidence of successful teaching of literature at the undergraduate level.
• Evidence of expertise in U.S. Multi-ethnic Literature.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the http://nau.edu/Provost/Resources-Policies/. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU’s BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
