The Department of English at Northern Arizona University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution which aims to become the nation’s leading university serving Native Americans, invites applications for a Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor position beginning in August 2023.
Responsibilities:
This position consists of an 80% teaching load, teaching Secondary English education content pedagogy courses, supervising student fieldwork placements including student teaching, and teaching lower division courses in literature, including U.S. surveys. The BSED program standards require faculty who can teach content and pedagogy designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, class, mental and physical abilities, nationality, migrant, immigrant, and refugee status. Candidates will be expected to serve on department, college, and university committees related to English and/or Teacher Education, participate in program assessment, advise/mentor undergraduate BSED students, and participate in other service, professional development, and/or scholarly work related to their teaching.
Minimum Qualifications
Lecturer Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in English, Education, or related field conferred by August 21, 2023.
3 years of experience teaching at the secondary level (grades 6-12).
Assistant Teaching Professor Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal degree in English, Education, or related field conferred by August 21, 2023.
3 years of experience teaching at the secondary level (grades 6-12)
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research/professional development, and/or service.
Ability to develop curriculum for undergraduate students including English education pedagogy coursework and preparation to teach lower division literature courses, including U.S. surveys.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as student work, assessment data, syllabi, and teaching evaluations.
Experience mentoring pre-service teachers and/or experience in other types of teacher mentoring.
Ability to contribute to a dynamic English education teacher preparation program and K-20 collaborative partnerships with commitments to developing relationships and connecting to teachers and schools throughout the state of Arizona.
Ability to provide research-based teacher professional development through conference presentations, professional development workshops, publications, or other avenues.
Evidence of an understanding of the advising and service roles of faculty in a public research university with a nationally accredited education program that participates in continual program assessment and evaluation.
