Job Description

 

Northern Arizona University’s Student Affairs Division seeks a talented, motivated, relationship-oriented Business Intelligence Analyst, Sr., to support division and departmental data collection and assessment. The Business Intelligence Analyst Sr. will be skilled at conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses and can translate findings into clear language that creates compelling narratives. This individual will collaborate with employees throughout the Student Affairs Division to identify data needs, use data to analyze systems and services to support the Division’s mission and goals and support building a culture of assessment within the organization. The successful candidate will support Student Affairs’ efforts to improve student persistence and momentum, academic and career purpose, wellness, and inclusion/sense of belonging.

 

Analysis – 30%

 

• Conduct analysis of Student Affairs data to inform decision-making processes and support reporting requirements.

• Collaborate with colleagues to identify questions, issues, and service opportunities, providing insights and recommendations based on analysis.

• Conduct statistical analysis on survey and institutional datasets to identify trends, patterns, and correlations.

• Utilize advanced statistical techniques to derive actionable insights and recommendations from large datasets.

• Interpret statistical findings and present findings in clear, concise reports or visualizations to inform decision-making processes.

• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate survey and institutional data into comprehensive analytical frameworks for holistic understanding and strategic planning.

• Explore ways to creatively analyze and present information to ensure inclusiveness.

• Develop and utilize moderately complex analytical tools and models to generate reports and insights.

 

Reporting – 25%

 

• Collaborate with Student Affairs colleagues to define reporting requirements and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

• Ensure accuracy and integrity of reporting data through data validation and quality assurance processes.

• Identify, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress toward goals and identify areas for improvement.

• Understands the basic system interconnectivity and relationships between analytical tools and system structure and design.

• Generate reports for key collaborators, providing recommendations for improvement or change based on analysis.

• Continuously evaluate and enhance reporting processes to streamline efficiency and effectiveness.

• Translate team member requirements into actionable specifications for report development, ensuring clarity and accuracy.

• Continuously engage with Student Affairs staff to gather feedback and iterate on reporting solutions to meet evolving needs and expectations.

 

Data Visualization – 25%

 

• Develop visually appealing and interactive data visualizations using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or other relevant software to communicate trends and recommendations effectively to Student Affairs audiences.

• Collaborate with colleagues to understand their data needs and objectives, translating them into effective visualization designs.

• Utilize best practices in data visualization to present complex information clearly and understandably.

• Conduct usability testing and gather feedback to improve data visualizations for enhanced user experience and comprehension iteratively.

 

Training and Documentation – 10%

 

• Provide training and support to Student Affairs staff on report generation, interpretation, and utilization of reporting tools.

• Provide guidance and support to the division on data analysis techniques, reporting best practices, and software tools.

• Provide expertise and guidance on statistical analysis techniques to support data-driven decision-making across departments.

• Stay updated on and share industry trends and best practices in data analysis, reporting, and visualizations to continually improve processes and outcomes.

• Develop comprehensive documentation outlining data analysis methodologies, including steps taken, algorithms employed, and rationale behind analytical decisions, ensuring transparency and reproducibility in analysis processes.

• Create user-friendly documentation, such as user guides and manuals, to support colleagues in understanding and utilizing Business Intelligence tools, reports, and dashboards effectively, enhancing user proficiency and adoption of Business Intelligence solutions.

 

Supervision – 5%

 

• Recruit, hire, onboard, train, supervise, and evaluate student employees who support Student Affairs assessment and analysis efforts.

 

Other – 5%

 

• Serve on division and university committees, task forces, and special projects upon request.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, or other related field.

• 3+ years of experience reporting, analyzing, and visualizing data sets.

• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or Social Sciences.

• 3+ years of full-time experience working in higher education.

• Advanced experience utilizing visualization tools such as data warehouse reporting, Tableau, and/or Power BI and translating results to non-technical users.

• Intermediate experience utilizing statistical software, including SPSS, SAS, or R, demonstrating understanding of statistical concepts and deriving meaningful insights.

Salary

 

Salary range begins at $62,996. Annual salary commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.

 

FLSA Status

 

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
