Northern Arizona University, Yuma Branch Campus is conducting a national search to fill a non-tenure track, academic year position in Education at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. This position is expected to be continuing with potential for promotion. Renewal is contingent on performance, continued funding and departmental needs.

 

The Yuma Branch Campus of Northern Arizona University in Yuma, AZ is an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) located on the grounds of Arizona Western College, the local community college. The campus serves a vital and growing local and regional community. It is about 17 miles from the Mexican border and the State of Sonora.

 

The teacher education program is offered in Yuma to a very diverse student population primarily through face-to-face delivery. All faculty members are expected to promote student learning and help students achieve academic outcomes. NAU-Yuma provides opportunities to work with faculty and students in partnership with Mexican universities in Sonora and Baja Norte, Mexico.

 

This position is located in Yuma, AZ. Arizona residency will be required and residence in the Yuma region is expected. Some travel for meetings, recruitment efforts, and other job related duties is an expectation of the position as well as community service activities.

 

Job Description

 

The primary focus of this position is teaching elementary education in-person and remote undergraduate and graduate courses. This position will serve as a member of the College of Education on the Yuma Branch Campus. The position requires teaching, service, and professional development. Courses will include teacher preparation methods in the successful applicant’s areas of expertise and courses that fit departmental needs. A successful annual review is dependent on a demonstrated connectedness to the discipline, teaching reviews, and service. The faculty member is expected to serve on university and campus committees and assist with program development. The successful candidate will serve as a resource for recruiting and marketing the program. Summer and winter teaching may be available for additional compensation.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• An earned doctorate (or ABD with doctorate no later than June 2022) in Education or closely related field from an accredited university.

• Minimum of three years’ teaching experience in K-12 settings

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• An earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or closely-related field from an accredited university

• Ability to teach across curricular areas

• Experience teaching a range of upper division courses in teacher education

• Five years or more teaching experience in K-12 settings

• Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse faculty, staff and student environment

• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and working with first-generation minority students

• Experience teaching remote courses to augment face-to-face teaching

• Demonstrated ongoing engagement with the discipline as evidenced by participation at regional or national conferences, meetings, or other involvement with the profession

• Experience in providing career exploration opportunities for high school or community college students interested in pursuing a teaching career

• Experience in seeking grants/external funding

• Fluency in Spanish

Salary

 

$57,000 – $63,507

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the http://nau.edu/Provost/Resources-Policies/. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU’s BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
