The https://nau.edu/cstlat Northern Arizona University (NAU) invite applications for a scholar of STEM education at the rank of assistant research professor to begin as early as August 2023. This is a non-tenure track faculty position with primary responsibilities in research.

 

The CSTL at NAU is committed to strategically increasing its capacity to provide local and national leadership in STEM education through advanced research and scholarly activities. NAU seeks a scholar with background and scholarly interest in improving the quality of STEM education at the primary, secondary, and/or post-secondary levels. Our Center values interdisciplinary collaborations and this position is open to scholars coming from science education, mathematics education, engineering education, higher education, or related fields.

 

Job Description

 

This is a 100% research position and does not include teaching or service obligations. The person in this role is expected to obtain external funding through grants and contracts for support of their research programs. The position is fully funded for the first two years, and the person in this role is expected to be self-funded by their third year in the position. The successful scholar’s research program can be broadly conceived within STEM education with priority to candidates who center equity and social justice in their inquiry. Responsibilities include grant writing and management, production of high-impact publications, and collaboration with CSTL faculty and staff. Candidates successful in this position can earn promotion to the associate and full professor levels, based on research productivity. We are seeking a long-term colleague who will contribute to the Center’s research impact and national presence. Specific research areas within STEM education and methodologies are intentionally open.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• An earned doctoral degree in science education, mathematics education, engineering education, higher education, or a closely related field (degree conferred by 08/15/2023).

• Research experience that centers STEM education (broadly conceived).

• Previous experience supporting grant-funded projects

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• A record of peer-reviewed publications relevant to this position, commensurate with experience.

• A record of identifying and writing external grants, commensurate with experience.

• A demonstrated record for independent research leading to peer reviewed publications and external research funding commensurate with experience.

• A record of scholarship centering equity and inclusion.

• Active engagement in the STEM education scholarly communities.

• A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships.

• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Salary

 

Expected range is $75,000 to $77,000 for a nine-month salary (commensurate with experience and qualifications).

 

Benefits

 

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the http://nau.edu/Provost/Resources-Policies/. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU’s BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
