The NYU School of Professional Studies seeks a Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Public Relations and Corporate Communication for the Division of Programs in Business. (The rank of the position will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.)
NYU SPS is looking for an educator and thought leader who is aspiring to shape the next generation of PR and Corporate Communication professionals, with a focus on Reputation Management and social media. This faculty member will teach in our MS in Public Relations and Corporate Communication graduate degree program, and ideally support the development of course content and emerging programs in managing corporate reputation, building trust, ethical and purpose-based growth. We are looking for a PR or Communication academic educator, experienced in applying research and insights to professional practice and building education programs for the training of emerging young professionals in the field. NYU SPS seeks an individual who either combines scholarship with direct work experience in companies and/or institutions where they have helped to solve business and communication challenges, or a practitioner with extensive experience in PR and/or Corporate Communication, who has an advanced educational background.
NYU SPS is particularly interested in attracting an academic or practitioner with expertise or research in the fields of managing corporate reputation through digital and traditional channels, with the expectation this faculty will support curriculum and program development in this area.
The candidate will be expected to perform the following responsibilities in addition to teaching and support in course development:
.Advance thought leadership through applied industry research
.Build industry relationships and partnerships to enhance the program’s connection to the workplace
.Support the growth and development of adjunct faculty base
.Contribute collaboratively to the advancement of the Division’s, School’s and NYU’s mission and strategy.
All faculty members are expected to be active contributors to meeting the applied professional goals of the division and part of the continuing investments in research and pedagogy and corporate collaboration.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Division of Programs in Business, the clinical faculty will work closely with the Academic Director and Department Chair to implement the vision for expanding the division’s program in PR and Corporate Communication, and to increase these initiatives’ profile and visibility locally, nationally and internationally. The clinical faculty will also work directly with industry professionals and academics to advance the applied professional mission of the division. This full-time position is a nine-month appointment with a two-year renewable faculty contract.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 – $145,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree (terminal in their field or discipline) in Public Relations, Communication, Media Studies, Journalism or a related discipline, plus 8-10 years of industry experience and 3-5 years of teaching experience. The ideal candidate will be able to lead in the creation of intellectual capital around topic areas directly relevant to practitioners of PR and Corporate Communication, which they would be expected to apply through classroom teaching, publication in business or academic journals, industry conferences, consulting and/or corporate partnerships etc. Faculty members should have experience working with a diverse base of professionals and teaching a diverse population of students.
Experience and research in the areas of Social Media, Professional Writing, Media Relations, Crisis Communication, Data Storytelling, Measurement and Analytics, Ethics and Social Responsibility would be very desirable, as would experience in curriculum, course, and program development.
