The Department of Environmental Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We are currently seeking applicants in the following subject areas:

Earth and Environmental Science:
These positions are open to scholars whose research specializes in all relevant dimensions of Earth and Environmental Science. We welcome candidates from a broad range of disciplines (e.g. Earth systems science, ecology, conservation biology, and other relevant fields). The appointments will begin September 1, 2023, pending administrative and budgetary approval. The successful applicants will be interdisciplinary scholars with a strong record of research and publishing, who are committed to educating both Environmental Studies undergraduate major and graduate students in the planned PhD graduate program and/or the existing MA in Animal Studies, both hosted by the department.

Environmental Governance and Justice:
This position is open to scholars specializing in environmental ethics, global environmental governance, and/or environmental justice. We welcome candidates from a broad range of social science, physical science, policy, and humanities backgrounds (e.g., philosophy, environmental studies, urban studies, ecology, political science, sociology, economics, public policy, geography). The successful applicant will be an interdisciplinary scholar with a strong record of research and publishing, who is committed to educating both Environmental Studies undergraduate majors and graduate students in current and planned programs hosted by the department. The appointment will begin September 1, 2023, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

Urban Ecology
This position is open to innovative, interdisciplinary scholars whose research is in Urban Ecology, broadly conceived. The position will be housed entirely within the Department of Environmental Studies, but is part of a broader cluster of recruitment efforts in Transforming Ecologies in Urban Environments that spans the departments of Environmental Studies and Biology in this year’s searches and may expand to other departments. A primary aim of the cluster is to create a network for scholars working in these areas to collaborate across NYU. The successful applicant(s) will be interdisciplinary scholars with an excellent record of research and publishing who are committed to educating undergraduates majoring in Environmental Studies and eventual graduate students in the PhD program in Environmental Studies, which is under development. We welcome candidates from a broad range of social science, physical science, and policy backgrounds (e.g., environmental studies, Earth science, urban studies, ecology, political science, sociology, economics, public policy, geography). The appointment will begin September 1, 2023, subject to administrative and budgetary approval.

Qualifications
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. by August 31, 2023, have an integrative research program that demonstrates the potential to be a leader in the field of Environmental Studies, and have proven ability to be an excellent teacher.
