ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

ARTS AND SCIENCE
New York University

The Departments of Chemistry and Physics at New York University (NYU) invite applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position as a Simons Foundation Faculty Fellow in Computational Physical Chemistry within the newly established Simons Center for Computational Physical Chemistry https://wp.nyu.edu/sccpc/; the position is subject to administrative and budgetary approval. Broad areas of research involving computational and theoretical studies of physical phenomena in molecular sciences will be considered.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics or related fields and demonstrate the potential to do pioneering research and teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The position is anticipated to be in the Department of Chemistry at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with the possibility of a joint appointment with the NYU Department of Physics.  In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $90,000 – $140,000 at the rank of Assistant Professor and $110,000 – $170,000 at the rank of Associate Professor. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

The Department of Chemistry has developed an ambitious growth plan which includes the recent establishment of the Simons Center for Computational Physical Chemistry, the Molecular Design Institute, the Laboratory for Molecular Nanoscience, the Biomedical Chemistry Institute, and an  ongoing initiative in Chemical Biology. The Department of Physics has a broad and distinguished program including the Center for Quantum Phenomena, the Center for Soft Matter Research and the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics, with many opportunities for cross-cutting research with Chemistry. Faculty in both departments participate in significant interdisciplinary programs within the Washington Square campus and at NYU’s engineering and medical schools. Successful candidates will also have opportunities for engaging in scholarly activities at its overseas campuses in Shanghai and Abu Dhabi.

Candidates should submit a curriculum vita, a detailed description of research plans and interests, and a statement of teaching experience and interests. The application should include three letters of recommendation. Because diversity and inclusion are an important part of the NYU mission, candidates should include a paragraph in their cover letter indicating how diversity and inclusion figure into their past, present, and future teaching, research, and community engagement. (Additional information can be found here:  http://as.nyu.edu/departments/facultydiversity/recruitment/diversity-statements.html).

The review of complete applications will begin on December 15, 2022. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2023. Please submit applications through the following link apply.interfolio.com/116939. Questions about this position can be sent by Email to: chemistry.search@nyu.edu
