Full-time Professor 3D/Sculpture

Summary Statement:

Montserrat College of Art invites applications for a full-time 3D/Sculpture faculty position that will draw connections across the expanded fields of contemporary sculpture, object design, and spatial practice. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of working methodologies, processes, tools, and concepts relevant to the fields of contemporary sculpture and object design, and will have experience with digital fabrication technologies. The faculty member will be expected to address the curricular needs of the current BFA Sculpture concentration while working collaboratively with the college’s Divisions of Fine Arts, Visual Communication and Design, Liberal Arts, and Foundation to develop new interdisciplinary Sculpture courses. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the strong teaching ethos of Montserrat, preparing students to thrive in the dynamic realms of contemporary art and design.

In addition to helping explore and develop a new concentration combining digital fabrication and design, this faculty position will serve as the Sculpture Concentration Coordinator and will oversee the Sculpture Concentration curriculum, working closely with other college faculty to schedule, staff, and teach in the Sculpture concentration area. The faculty member must be committed to the education of all students, freshman through senior year, and work collaboratively with the other Coordinators who lead the College’s ten concentrations to develop and implement innovative programming that recognizes, supports and organizes multiple ways of exploring, expressing and communicating ideas. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching a 3/3 load of courses in Montserrat’s BFA degree program. ​​The College requires full-time faculty to embody their leadership role through program management, committee work, and service to the College, as well as contributing to student success through academic advising and co-curricular involvement. All faculty are expected to maintain an active professional practice as an artist, designer, and/or researcher that contributes to the educational mission of the college and its programming.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements

  • MFA, MA or other terminal degree in Sculpture, Spatial and/or Object Design, Studio Art or related practice
  • Minimum five years of full-time teaching experience at the college level
  • Candidates must be able to teach at all levels in the undergraduate program and be proficient using analog and digital fabrication tools and expanded time-based media.
  • Experience that demonstrates a significant engagement with curriculum design, implementation and delivery that embraces innovative and interdisciplinary practices and pedagogy
  • ​​Facility management experience in the sculpture studio, wood and metal fabrication, digital fabrication lab and other spaces applicable to the needs of the concentration and department
  • Teaching experience that diversifies the views of all art and design practices
  • Administrative experience that includes the supervision of faculty, budget development and accountability
  • Expertise in the tools and technologies that enable distance teaching and learning and experience with a variety of software applications required in the production of instructional material
  • Experience advising students
  • Proven ability to enrich the aims of diversity, equity and inclusion of the college and all of its constituents
