Massasoit Community College invites applications for our next Vice President of Academic Affairs. Massasoit currently offers 41 associate degree programs in arts, sciences, and applied sciences and 24 certificates. Students of color make up roughly half of all students enrolled and more than half of all Massasoit students are first generation to attend college. More than 900 students graduate from Massasoit with an associate degree or certificate each year.

 

Brockton, Massachusetts, home of Massasoit’s largest campus, prides itself on its diversity of cultures and is home to approximately 95,000 residents. Job Description:

 

Reporting directly to the College President, the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) is a member of the President’s Cabinet and provides professional and ethical leadership that fosters the highest teaching, learning and academic service standards and student and institutional outcomes.

 

The VPAA is responsible for providing leadership and direction of the College’s academic/credit programs and services in alignment with the College’s mission, vision, goals and core values; collaborating with the President’s Leadership Team to advance the mission of the College and achieve its strategic goals; developing and empowering a diverse, collaborative and innovative academic leadership team; and leading and nurturing an organizational culture where professionalism, positive intent, employee empowerment, equity and accountability grows and thrives.

 

The VPAA supervises the hiring, evaluation, and tenure recommendations of faculty and the hiring and evaluation of academic professional staffing in the division pursuant to the MCCC/MTA (including DCE Instructors) and AFSCME contracts and Non-Unit Professionals Personnel Policies Handbook; and all College policies. The VPAA leads the accreditation and academic strategic planning processes; has primary leadership responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating the College’s education programs; and carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the College President.

 

The VPAA directly supervises six Academic Deans in the following divisions: Business and Technology; Nursing and Allied Health; Humanities and Communication Arts; Science and Mathematics; Emergent Technologies; and Public Service and Social Sciences. Additionally, the VPAA oversees Library Services.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

• Lead the planning, delivery, and assessment of academic support services, Early College programming, retention initiatives, experiential learning, and the libraries.

• Oversee the institutional accreditation (New England Commission of Higher Education), ensure the retention of regional and program accreditation; provide leadership for efforts associated with assessment and student learning outcomes.

• Coordinate the systematic review of academic programs/services to ensure that they meet the needs of our students and communities; recommend and implement new instructional programs and services.

• Recommend academic faculty appointments, including tenure, promotion, sabbatical, etc. to the President.

• Collaborate with Student Services and Enrollment Management leadership to review, develop and sustain the College’s recruitment and retention strategies to meet current and future goals at all Massasoit Community College locations, including online learning.

• Collaborate with the Center for Workforce and Community Education to develop and implement educational pathways and stackable credentials from non-credit to credit certificate and associate degree programs.

• Provide leadership in all aspects of academic affairs, including long-range planning, hiring and professional development of faculty and academic staff, budgeting, curriculum, assessment, accreditation and academic program/service development.

• Lead, develop and implement an innovative, visionary strategic plan for academic affairs that includes measurable goals and indicators of success, and incorporates data collection and analysis to support this work.

• Provide leadership for the professional development of faculty, administrators and staff within academic affairs to achieve institutional goals.

• Provide leadership for the ongoing enhancement and implementation of the College’s learning outcomes assessment program to ensure the achievement of competencies and learning goals.

• Collaborate with all areas of the College to review, recommend, establish and implement academic standards, policies and procedures to foster integrated and inclusionary student success systems and models.

• Foster strong and positive relations with unions, faculty and staff, to ensure on-going dialogue, shared governance and compliance with and support of collective bargaining agreements.

• Provide leadership of various delivery models for instruction, including the use of technology, in face-to-face, web-enhanced, hybrid and online learning modalities.

• Focus on the Commonwealth’s Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.

 

Requirements:

 

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a related field.

• Minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience at the college level, or its equivalent adjunct teaching experience.

• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible college academic administrative experience or equivalent.

• Managerial experience in a collective bargaining environment.

• Experience working with regional accreditation agencies and specialized accreditors.

• The successful candidate will be an innovator and relationship builder committed to advancing the College’s diversity initiatives.

• Ability to manage multiple high-priority, high-profile projects and work collaboratively and constructively across constituencies.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience, or its equivalent adjunct teaching experience in a community college setting.

• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible academic administrative experience in a community college setting.

• Minimum of three years of experience working in administration within the Massachusetts Public Higher Education system.

Additional Information:

 

Position Status: Non-unit Professional, full-time state funded with benefits.

 

Hours: 37.5 per week

 

Salary: $134,903 – $175,374 (annually), Commensurate with education and experience.

 

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites
