Job Summary:

 

Marist College Counseling Services is seeking an energetic and clinically-strong individual with evidenced commitment to DEI for the position of Assistant Director. The Assistant Director provides key administrative responsibilities in the oversight of department operations, including supervision of clinical staff and interns, contributing to CS Vision, strategic planning, and policy & procedures. The role also includes provision of a range of services to a diverse student population, including: individual and group counseling, crisis response and intervention, on-call rotation, and innovative outreach programming. This role plays an integral part of creating a campus culture of wellness through engagement with campus community and off-campus partners.

 

The ideal candidate is committed to and well-versed in implementing DEI initiatives, including the provision of mental health services for students with historically marginalized identities and collaborating with staff & campus partners to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills. Counseling Services is committed to enhancing student mental health through accessible, culturally-informed care and contributing to a campus culture of inclusiveness, equity and wellness.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

·      Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work

·      Must be licensed or license-eligible in New York State within one year of assuming position

·      Minimum of three years experience working with college students

·      Two or more years of demonstrated administrative experience including supervision, strategic planning and procedural responsibilities

·      Demonstrative experiences contributing to a strong culture of equity and inclusion

 

Essential Functions:

 

·      Provides oversight of daily operations of Counseling Services with Director and in Director’s absence

·      Contributes to CS vision, strategic planning, and policy & procedures with special attention to DEI Initiatives

·      Supervise, evaluate, and support professional staff and interns; Support clinical staff in daytime emergency response via risk assessment, coordinating hospitalization, and consulting with involved professionals, college staff, families and students

·      Assist in coordination of emergency on-call services after-hours, weekends and holidays; Participate in on-call rotation and backup coverage.

·      Provides clinical services of assessment, treatment planning, care coordination with a limited caseload

·      Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with legal, ethical and professional guidelines and Counseling Services policies using Titanium Schedule electronic record

·      Contributes to campus culture of wellness through engagement with campus community and off-campus partners, including participation in campus-wide committees and Student Affairs events

·      Develop and implement engaging programs on mental health concerns, wellness, and resilience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

·      PhD or PsyD in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-Accredited program; or PhD in Social Work

·      NY State Licensure

·      Demonstrated interest and expertise in one or more of the following: Working with Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) Students; Student-Athletes; Skill-based interventions such as DBT; Eating Disorders (ED); Alcohol and Substance Abuse (AOD)

·      Interest, experience, and commitment to facilitating groups

·      Experience working on Behavioral Intervention or Crisis Management Teams

·      Experience in providing training, outreach programs and crisis intervention in a University/College setting

·      Successful experience supervising, training, and evaluating staff and graduate level interns/trainees

·      Understanding one’s own intersectional identity and how it influences identity development and how one navigates the world

·      Demonstrated dedication and attentiveness to multicultural issues, social justice and intersectionality in serving historically marginalized students as well as commitment to ongoing development of cultural competencies

·      Committed self-care practice to maintain resilience

·      Familiarity with Titanium electronic medical record

·      Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills

·      403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.

·      Tuition Benefits:

o   Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.

o   College pays 100% tuition only.

o   Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

Counseling Services is a thriving center providing culturally- and trauma-informed services to undergraduate and graduate students while supporting the greater Marist community. Services include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, psychiatric services and campus-wide psychoeducational programs/outreach. Our multidisciplinary staff consists of psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors, graduate interns, a psychiatrist and consulting nutritionist.
