The School of Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) (https://www.lsu.edu/rnr/) in the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center and LSU College of Agriculture invites applications for a 12-month faculty position in fisheries management with extension (85%) and teaching (15%) responsibilities.  The primary responsibility of this position is to develop a nationally recognized extension program in fisheries management with an emphasis on aquatic species of economic importance to Louisiana. The Assistant/ Associate Professor will serve as an Extension Specialist in the School of Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) for the LSU Agricultural Center and the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program in all areas pertaining to sustainable fisheries management.

 

The successful applicant will work with professionals from the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program, the LSU AgCenter – School of Renewable Natural Resources, the LSU A&M campus, and other state and regional universities through regular meetings, cooperative grant and contract efforts, graduate student mentoring, and other activities to develop relevant and responsive extension programming. The individual will provide educational opportunities and information to Louisiana’s commercial and recreational fisheries sectors through various methods, as appropriate. In addition, the Assistant / Associate Professor will conduct field visits as needed and will interact with relevant state, regional and national agencies and organizations. The successful applicant will also be expected to actively seek extramural funding through grants and contracts to build a viable marine and freshwater fisheries management extension program aligned with identified focus areas.

 

The applicant should provide evidence of collaborative accomplishments in teaching and research and be expected to prepare graduate students in fisheries management. Teaching responsibilities will include one graduate/undergraduate combined level course yearly, focusing on marine fisheries management and possibly additional courses of interest to the successful applicant. The successful applicant will also participate in student advising and departmental recruitment activities.

 

Additional Job Description:
The School of Renewable Natural Resources consists of approximately 30 faculty members, 10 research, extension, and teaching associates, and 6 support staff members. There are about 300 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students. The School has B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs in Renewable Natural Resources with areas of concentration in Wildlife, Forestry, Forest Products, Watershed Science, and Fisheries and Aquaculture. The RNR faculty is a diverse group of talented, multidisciplinary professionals dedicated to fulfilling the research, teaching, and extension missions of a Research I land-grant university.

Special Instructions:
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Fisheries or a related discipline. Effective human relations and public speaking skills will be required to work with various clientele and professional groups. The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form with diverse lay and professional audiences is required.
