The Director of the School of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies (TLC), is the chief administrative officer of the School and reports directly to and is accountable to the Dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Services. The School of TLC (https://www.kent.edu/ehhs/tlcs) offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and houses several teacher education programs including early childhood, middle childhood, adolescent education, career technical, and physical education as well as educational technology.
The Director of the School of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies:
- provides a vision for the work of teacher education and local and global community engagement;
- provides leadership for shared problem-solving and ongoing intellectual dialogue about teaching, scholarship, programming, and issues related to the evolving educational environment;
- works with and supports 38 faculty on Kent campus and 5 faculty on Regional campuses in their highly productive teaching, research/grant and school partnership work.
- responsive to the needs of undergraduate and graduate students;
- promotes students first philosophy;
- promotes effective communication and positive morale within the School;
- cultivates a scholarly culture and climate of the School;
- recommends the reappointment, non-reappointment, tenure, promotion, sanction, and or dismissal of faculty members in the School, as well as appoints, supports, and directs the nonacademic staff of the School;
- assigns workload to faculty members and facilitates scheduling of courses;
- oversees the School budget and engages in fiscally-responsible management of resources;
- oversees and supports the Child Development Center, and TLC special centers/projects;
- promotes diversity, equity and inclusion;
- advocates for and represents faculty in School, College, and University affairs, forums, and decisions;
- develops administrative and educational policies in collaboration with faculty and staff in the School; ensures implementation of School compliance with University, Administrative and operational policies, rules and regulations, and any applicable collective bargaining agreements;
- performs other tasks and duties as assigned and may include but are not limited to following: the progress of graduates, building and maintaining relationships across Kent State University’s multiple campuses, providing orientation to new faculty, and such.
Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the school and experience generally commensurate to the rank of full professor.
OR
Significant academic or equivalent professional experience generally commensurate to the rank of full professor.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
