Job Description

Clinical Fellow
Harvard Law School

Health Law and Policy Clinic
Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation

Job Summary
Clinical Fellows work under the supervision of the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation’s (CHLPI) Health Law and Policy Clinic (HLPC) clinical instructors to analyze, explain and promote better public understanding of the laws regulating the healthcare system; to advocate for legal, regulatory, and policy reforms to expand access to high-quality healthcare; to reduce health disparities; to address social determinants of health; and to promote more equitable and effective health and public health systems. To meet these goals, Clinical Fellows work with diverse stakeholders, including consumers, advocates, community-based organizations, health and social services professionals, government officials and others, as well as with HLPC’s clinical staff and students.

The fellowship represents a unique opportunity to work within Harvard Law School’s clinical program, to join a dynamic public interest and clinical teaching health and public health law and policy clinic, and to practice in burgeoning areas of state and national importance. For more information about CHLPI and HLPC, visit http://www.chlpi.org.

Job Specific Responsibilities

As a Clinical Fellow, you will:

  • Serve as a team member or lead attorney on one or more Health Law and Policy Clinic (HLPC) projects that focus on using law and policy to enable the health care system to effectively promote access to high-quality health care and respond to the social determinants of health, with an emphasis on working toward racial justice and equity goals;
  • Track state and federal health policy developments and analyze their potential impact on access to health care and social determinant interventions;
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and students to create and distribute written analyses, factsheets, presentations, trainings, and other multi-media publications for key partners and the public;

  • Participate in office-wide projects and in the Center’s program as a laboratory for innovation in legal practice and clinical legal education.

Basic Qualifications: Candidates must have earned a J.D. within the last three years.
