Job Description

Assistant or Associate Professor of Theatre Arts

The Adams School of Music and the Arts at Gordon College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Theatre Arts who is able to teach a wide variety of theatre courses and who has a preferred specialization in acting or directing. Candidates must display a broad range of skills that will allow them to contribute across a variety of theatre course offerings, in support of both the College’s liberal arts curriculum and its well-respected and vibrant theatre arts program. The position begins August 2025.

Gordon College is a Christian liberal arts college located in Massachusetts on Boston’s North Shore, a beautiful coastal area with easy access to Boston and the rest of New England. Central to the Gordon College mission are faculty commitments to integrate faith, learning, and living; to cultivate imagination with a disposition of hope; and to inspire creative contributions to God’s purposes in a wide range of disciplines.

The Adams School of Music and the Arts at Gordon College is an intentionally collaborative hub of all creative disciplines at the College, housing programs in Music, Art, Theatre Arts, and Communication Arts. As both a creative and Christian community, students at the Adams School experience deepened faith through the arts—creating, studying, and enjoying them together. The Adams School is comprised of 17 full-time faculty and over 30 adjunct and part-time faculty, who are outstanding educators and renowned performers, designers, and artists.

Gordon College’s theatre program has twice been named among the “Top 20 Best College Theatres” in America by The Princeton Review. The theatre program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts as well as a Theatre minor and Musical Theatre minor. Theatre majors and minors and students of any major from across campus are encouraged to participate in all of the theatre program’s offerings.

The theatre program at Gordon College is one that emphasizes a holistic approach to training. Faculty and staff work alongside students, mentoring and modeling a collaborative and rigorous approach to theatre production.
