Director, Alumni Affinity Engagement – Office of Advancement Georgetown University

Director, Alumni Affinity Engagement – Office of Advancement – Georgetown University

 

The Director, Alumni Affinity Engagement is a key member of the Alumni Relations team, Alumni Association, and Office of Advancement. They are responsible for managing the implementation of an identity-based alumni engagement strategy, supporting multiple identity-based alumni organizations, and helping to drive Georgetown University-wide alumni diversity and inclusion initiatives.

 

Position responsibilities include:

 

Program/Event Management & Execution

 

• Manage program execution and implementation for a portfolio of alumni affinity groups, including volunteer management, event execution, fundraising, communications, and budget management.

• Partner with the Senior Director and team in the execution of long-term strategic plans for current and future affinity groups, ensuring alignment with the University’s campaign and alumni diversity and inclusion initiatives.

• Serve as a core team member in the planning and execution of the bi-annual Women’s Forum signature alumni event, including speaker engagement, topic development, sponsorship, marketing and communications.

 

Volunteer Management

 

• Work with leadership groups and the Associate Director of Affinity Engagement to drive each affinity group’s strategy, programs, and events.

• Provide guidance, governance support, and direction for volunteer organizations

• Liaise with on-campus, Advancement, and Alumni Association centers and departments to ensure the best level of collaboration and engagement of volunteers, prospective major donors, and alumni.

 

Fundraising

 

• Assist in all activities that are fundraising in nature that are tied to affinity groups, existing and future, from sponsorships, annual giving campaigns, and major gift opportunity collaborations with development.

• Collaborate with the Associate Director in the development and implementation of event sponsorship opportunities for the Women’s Forum and Black Alumni Summit.

 

Communications

 

• Execute the communication efforts of the affinity groups via email, social media, websites, and e-newsletters.

• Develop, share, evaluate, promote, and build out the affinity groups’ social media presence and networking groups within Hoya Gateway, Georgetown’s premier networking platform.

• Utilize all existing social media platforms to their fullest potential to amplify the affinity groups’ presence, impact and showcase of alumni.

• Partner with Advancement to leverage the technology (iModules, GU360/Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, etc) and resources for seamless data integration and optimization of processes and resources.

• Liaise with internal teams and campus partners in order to cross-promote and collaborate, including Regional Engagement, Alumni Career Services, various Career Centers, Hoya Gateway, Class Programs & Reunion Campaigns, Development & Donor Relations.

 

Team & Budget Management

 

• Manage the Associate Director of Alumni Affinity Engagement and Programs.

• Responsible for the management of the affinity budgets (1-3 overall).

• Communicate closely with each affinity group to guide them through University policies and procedures, inform them of best practices and help reduce the need to duplicate efforts in the execution of events.

• Responsible for recording all affinity activities, events, biographical updates for alumni in Georgetown’s alumni database of record, GU360, and analyze overall affinity engagement efforts including touch points, membership, philanthropic support, etc.

• Partner with the Senior Director in developing the multi-year strategy for affinity groups.

 

Work Interactions

 

This position reports to the Senior Director of Alumni Alliance and Affinity Engagement who reports to the Managing Director of Alumni Engagement, and serves as a member of the Office of Advancement. This position will work closely with alumni volunteer leaders, key donors and partners across Advancement and the University.

 

Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree

• 5 to 8 years of experience in alumni relations, volunteer management, higher education, nonprofit organization, and/or a related field

• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and projects.

• Volunteer and/or board management experience

• Proven success in developing and managing events and programs

• Ability to analyze and leverage data for informed decisions

• Experience managing budgets

• Passion for innovative and entrepreneurial thinking

• Excellent judgment, problem solving and decision-making abilities

• Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to adapt communications style for various audiences

• Strong organizational skills, with ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

• Enthusiastic “people person” who communicates easily with diverse professionals and personalities

• The highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and emotional intelligence

 

Preferred qualification

 

Experience with effective direct marketing, e-marketing, database development, co-marketing partnerships, sponsorship development and other current marketing systems
