Accounting Supervisor

The Accounting Supervisor coordinates and manages the accounting functions of the FIU Foundation and subsidiaries to ensure compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.  Ensures compliance with accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.  Provides direct customer service to the University community and/or other constituents in the assigned area.

• Coordinates and administers the daily accounting functions (disbursements and revenue cycle) of the FIU Foundation, Inc. and Subsidiaries, a Direct Support Organization of Florida International University.
• Supervises and reviews the work and performance of subordinates and manages staff schedules.
• Provides training to the University Community on revenue and disbursement policies and procedures and business processes, as required.
• Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
• Coordinates the monthly accounting close process by closely working with accountants to ensure complete and accurate reporting.
• Responsible for working with departments to resolve reconciliation issues and record adjusting/correcting journal entries as needed.
• Responsible for quarterly and year-end financial statement journal entries, including but not limited to accruals, adjustments, etc.
• Responsible for account level reconciliations and other schedules as required in connection with any internal and external audits.
• Responsible for screening, coordinating, and responding to financial information requests from internal and external sources.
• Assists the Controller to implement new policies and procedures and/or improve business processes.
• Serves as a backup to assist with the accounting and financial reporting functions of the University’s other Direct Support Organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Five (5) years of accounting/bookkeeping experience to include supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience to include supervisory experience.
