Job Description:
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Fairfield University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of organic chemistry or chemical biology beginning September 1, 2024, pending final budget approval. Applicants with research interests within synthetic organic chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, or polymer science are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching Organic Chemistry I and II, Biochemistry I and associated laboratories. Additional teaching opportunities include courses for science and non-science majors, courses within the University’s Honors program, and courses within the signature elements of the College’s Magis Core curriculum. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses each semester; research and university service are required for promotion and tenure.
Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology or an allied field. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and the potential for developing an active research program in their area of specialization that involves undergraduates. Previous teaching and postdoctoral experience is preferred. Additionally, a commitment to pedagogical innovation and demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom is required.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry consists of ten full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Department has high-quality NSF-funded instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer and a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer. Our Department offers ACS-accredited B.S. degrees in Chemistry and in Biochemistry. The Department has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, including departmental events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences.
