Position Summary
The instructional designer provides instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of online courses and specialized educational programs.
Instructional Designer Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with and assist the faculty in instructional design issues and managing online course development
- Develop learning resources for faculty members to support online/hybrid course delivery
- Assist with retooling of courses and course segments to electronic delivery methods
- Assist in the development and implementation of logistical, instructional, and pedagogical policies for the creation and delivery of online courses
- Consult with faculty on optimal design of curriculum and instruction, and effective uses of multimedia
- Explore and make recommendations for multimedia software
- Serve as the institution’s representative and trainer for Quality Matters
Instructional Designer Minimum Job Requirements:
A master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Technology or a related field. Previous online teaching experience preferred
Instructional Designer Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and web resources
- Knowledge of course development and use of a learning management system
- Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude
Instructional Designer Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
- Work is performed during normal work hours but may require evening and weekend hours for special events or to meet deadlines
- Work is sedentary in nature with ten pounds maximum weight to lift and carry
- Work requires talking and/or hearing
