The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

Position Summary

The instructional designer provides instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of online courses and specialized educational programs.

 

Instructional Designer Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and assist the faculty in instructional design issues and managing online course development
  • Develop learning resources for faculty members to support online/hybrid course delivery
  • Assist with retooling of courses and course segments to electronic delivery methods
  • Assist in the development and implementation of logistical, instructional, and pedagogical policies for the creation and delivery of online courses
  • Consult with faculty on optimal design of curriculum and instruction, and effective uses of multimedia
  • Explore and make recommendations for multimedia software
  • Serve as the institution’s representative and trainer for Quality Matters

 

Instructional Designer Minimum Job Requirements:

A master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Technology or a related field. Previous online teaching experience preferred

 

Instructional Designer Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and web resources
  • Knowledge of course development and use of a learning management system
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude

 

Instructional Designer Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but may require evening and weekend hours for special events or to meet deadlines
  • Work is sedentary in nature with ten pounds maximum weight to lift and carry
  • Work requires talking and/or hearing
