Staff Associate I

The laboratory of Dr. Mustafa Aydogan in the Department of Genetics and Development at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a Staff Associate I to manage the laboratory and assist in the experimental effort of the ongoing autonomous clocks project in the laboratory. In addition to managing day-to-day lab operations, the role involves performing experiments on Drosophila

genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, microscopy, and immunohistochemistry, among other techniques. The Staff Associate I will also contribute as an active researcher, driving multiple projects forward, and may assist with collaborative projects with other labs as needed.

Specific responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Functional Knowledge:                                                                                                              Ensure that all relevant information acquired for research comes from either literature or conferences, both conceptually and technically.

Problem-Solving:
Optimize experiments and protocols for yourself and other lab members.

Decision Making/Autonomy:
Preform analyses and experiments to conduct research.

Technical expertise:
Operate and maintain equipment, computers, software programs and research tools in support of the lab.

Communication:
Participate in lab and other scientific meetings to both gather and deliver scientific information.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in a specific research field.

Specific skills and/or knowledge required for the position.
· Experienced in molecular biology approaches and lab handling skills.

Preferred Requirements:
· Four years of professional work experience is preferred.
