Job Description
The focus of this position is primarily on teaching and supporting teaching related efforts as a member of the department’s teaching team. The position is 90% teaching and 10% Outreach/Service.
The instructor’s initial teaching responsibilities (90%) will include serving as the primary instructor for HORT 260 Plant Propagation lecture and laboratory sections, which includes supervision of Undergraduate and/or Graduate Teaching Assistant(s) and HORT 454 Horticulture Crop Production and Management (a senior capstone course) The instructor will also be expected to develop other Horticulture course(s) as needed and appropriate, based on the candidate’s experience and expertise and department needs.
In addition, the instructor will assist with recruiting undergraduate students for all majors and concentrations in the department (10% Outreach/Service). Appropriate advising of student clubs and competition teams is also encouraged.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
M.S. in horticulture (e.g., environmental horticulture, horticulture production, arboriculture, pomology, etc.) or a closely related field
Experience in the use of online course management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Google Classroom)
Strong communication skills
Evidence of professional drive and initiative

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in horticulture (e.g., environmental horticulture, horticulture production, arboriculture, pomology, etc.) or closely related field
Documented experience, as primary instructor, teaching large enrollment college courses (100 or more students) for primarily the first-year student
Demonstrated experience teaching horticultural science or other closely related plant science coursework
Evidence of superior student evaluation data
Demonstrated record of engagement and commitment in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), as evidenced through course and curriculum development, superior student evaluation data, peer-reviewed publications, and/or collaborative activities that are validated by peers and communicated to others in the field.
Experience supervising graduate teaching assistants
Experience with development and teaching of distance/online education
Student recruiting experience
