Position description:

We seek an urban geographer with expertise in one or more of the following areas: inequality and justice; housing crises and/or gentrification; immigrant/racial/ethnic geographies; hazards/disasters; cities/built environment as complex systems; urban political ecology; spaces of economic innovation; human mobility; urban energy transition; policing and surveillance; local health disparities; knowledge of policy. Candidates specializing in these areas will especially be encouraged to apply, and other areas of urban geography will be considered.

We are looking for someone who is willing to bring their research interests in urban geography into developing new courses and/or redesigning open classes in our curriculum. In addition, priority will be given to candidates according to the preferred/desired qualifications below.

 

Minimum requirements include:

·      PhD in Geography or related field with graduate training in geography (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.)

·      A commitment and a record of contributions to student success through applicant’s teaching, scholarship, or service. This will be described in the Student Success Statement, which must address at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed above

·      Evidence of ability to be successful at university teaching, either as teaching assistant or instructor of record

·      Evidence of active scholarly research

 

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

·      Expertise with or willingness to use GIS/GIScience, participatory GIS, mixed-methods, quantitative and/or simulation methods (including graduate coursework, publication, applied experience, industry, etc.)

·      Experience/willingness to supervise undergraduate research, conduct fieldwork, or provide applied opportunities for students in community engagement

·      Ability to teach one or more of these (or related) classes: Urban Geography; Economic Geography; Legal and Political Geography; Introduction to GIS; Geodemographics with GIS/Laboratory; Environmental Law; Geography and Emergency Management

·      Evidence of active scholarly research through publication, conference participation, community-based research, activist scholarship, etc.

·      Ability to secure external funding
