Job Description

To apply for this job please visit apply.interfolio.com.

Brown Engineering is recruiting exceptionally talented researchers who have received their
Ph.D. degree in engineering, or an engineering-related discipline, or who expect to do so by
July 2024, and who aspire to careers as academic leaders, creating independent research and
pursuing pathways to innovation and discovery.

In furtherance of the University and School’s commitment to enhancing academic excellence by
cultivating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community in which the very best ideas can
flourish, we strongly encourage interested scholars from historically underrepresented groups to apply.

Given the School’s collaborative approach to advancing knowledge across disciplinary
boundaries, the strongest applications will highlight research drawing on more than one of the
following areas of research focus, including Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and
Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Fluids and Thermal
Sciences, Materials Science and Engineering, and Solid Mechanics.

Successful candidates will be selected based on an evaluation of their promise as future
academic leaders. They will be expected to carry out independent and collaborative research
with engineering faculty members; teach one course per year in the School; help connect
innovations in the research environment to concepts taught in courses; and ensure they develop strong teaching skills prior to launching their faculty careers.

The Hibbitt Engineering Fellows will receive an annual salary plus benefits and an additional
research and travel stipend. Anticipated start date for these full-time positions is in July 2024.
Initial appointment is for one year, with expected renewal for a second year given satisfactory
progress.

Application instructions
Candidates must submit an application, CV, statement of research accomplishments,
prospective research project summary, diversity statement and three letters of reference.
Prospective Fellows should also identify a Brown Engineering faculty member or a collaborating group of Engineering faculty to serve as mentor of the proposed research project. Please consult our research website for detailed information.

Applicants are encouraged to submit their materials by November 15, 2023 online through
https://apply.interfolio.com/129972. The positions will remain open until filled.

These Fellowships are provided by a generous gift from Susan and David Hibbitt. For more
information, please, visit https://engineering.brown.edu/research/hibbitt-fellows
