GENERAL DUTIES

  • Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework.
  • Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories
  • Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials
  • Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards
  • Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities
  • Manages equipment and materials inventories.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Brooklyn College invites applications for a College Laboratory Technician (CLT) within the Physics Department. The successful candidate will perform highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework, including the set-up, maintenance and organization of equipment and materials for experiments in student laboratories. The CLT will also assist students during the lab and help instructors in setting-up demonstration equipment and materials in the classroom. The CLT will work closely with faculty in the development and testing of new experiments. The successful candidate will maintain appropriate safety and hygiene standards, maintain required documentation related to laboratory activities, manage equipment and materials inventories, and perform laboratory-related duties as assigned by the Chairperson.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years’ related experience.  Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Physics
Experience working in an instructional physics laboratory
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to use computer applications such as a web browser, MS Word, and email
Good organizational skills
COMPENSATION

$46,577 – $59,637; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
