Job Description

The College of Engineering at Boston University has multiple open faculty positions as part of our ongoing growth in research and educational impact. One of the pillars of the College’s Strategic Plan is to create a community and educational experience that reinforces the extraordinary power of diversity and inclusion for impacting excellence in education, research, and community. We are proud of our increasingly diverse and exceptional student body, and we encourage applications from candidates who will contribute to our mission of ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all members of our community can thrive. The College partners with the University-wide Diversity and Inclusion office (https://www.bu.edu/diversity/) to support faculty, student, and staff success, and we complement programs offered through Boston University’s membership in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity with in-house mentoring of early career faculty.

The College has also embarked on a multi-year strategic expansion of research in six convergent areas: (1) Energy, Sustainability and Climate; (2) Intelligent, Autonomous and Secure Systems; (3) Photonics and Optical Systems; (4) Neuroengineering, Neuroinformatics, and Neuroscience; (5) Synthetic Biology, Tissue Engineering and Mechanobiology; and (6) Materials by Design. Woven throughout these themes is our emphasis on research and teaching that cuts across traditional disciplinary boundaries. We are especially eager to receive applications from candidates who will embrace our culture of collaboration.

Supporting this strategic expansion, we have multiple openings for assistant professors in this cycle, with particular interest in the areas of computer systems and energy, sustainability, and climate. The College is also a participant in a multi-opening, campus-wide cluster hiring initiative in Artificial Intelligence. In addition to these tenure-track positions, Professors of the Practice and Teaching Faculty in Computer Engineering and Engineering Design, Product Development, and Manufacturing are also sought.  For more information on these positions, please see https://www.bu.edu/eng/about-eng/open-positions/.

The College has 125 tenured or tenure-track primary faculty and is ranked 16th among private universities. Research activity by primary College faculty is over $70M per year. Engineering faculty lead and participate in several high-profile, interdisciplinary research centers, including the Institute for Global Sustainability, Hariri Center for Computational Science and Engineering, Center for Information and Systems Engineering, Biological Design Center, BUNano, Neurophotonics Center, Center for Systems Neuroscience, Photonics Center, Center for Multiscale and Translational Mechanobiology, Center for Forced Displacement, and the NSF Engineering Research Center in Cellular Metamaterials. For more information about the College, please visit http://www.bu.edu/eng/

Boston University is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
