The Career Consultant leads initiatives to support the career development and success of students, specifically focused on the College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). This position will be the primary support for employer and alumni engagement, consulting, programming and faculty engagement for all CCPA students, but as a member of the Fleishman Career Center team, will work collaboratively with staff on the main campus to achieve goals. The role will build sustainable relationships that contribute to the success of CCPA students and those within the Education and Human Services career cluster.
Partnerships
The career consultant will lead efforts to connect all students with career knowledge, education and resources in order to further their success. This position will have primary office space at the University Downtown Center (UDC), where the majority of CCPA students take courses, and will focus on developing relationships with students, faculty and staff to positively impact CCPA student’s career confidence.
In collaboration with the Associate Director for Employer Engagement and Partnerships, the career consultant will work to integrate employers and alumni into career education and employer initiatives for students specifically focused on the Education and Human Services career cluster.
The career consultant will also have the opportunity to participate on the Fleishman Career Center’s internal Diversity and Social Justice working group that collaborates to best educate and serve students, while also holding policies, procedures and events accountable for the EAR framework (Equitable, Accessible, Representative).
Student Engagement
The career consultant will provide career consulting at the UDC, in combination of both 1:1 student appointments or group workshops.
The Fleishman Career Center is committed to serving all students equitably, and one of the most impactful ways to do that is through the classroom. As a member of the Academic Partnerships Team, the career consultant will collaborate to bring faculty engagement initiatives to the UDC in an effort to remove barriers for students getting access to career development content, resources and networks.
This role will also hire, and supervise any student staff within the Fleishman Career Center’s UDC space, this includes providing feedback for evaluations and monitoring projects throughout the year.
Core Responsibilities:
-Set goals and provide overall leadership for the career initiatives related to the Education and Human services career cluster and students within CCPA
-Facilitate initiatives and approaches to engage faculty in the integration of career development in the classroom
-Cultivate opportunities to integrate employer and alumni partners in career education and mentorship
-Provide 1:1 support to students for appointment hours including supporting walk-in services/appointments
-Serve on Education and Human Services career cluster
-Supervise student staff
Requirements:
-Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3+ years of professional experience in career services or related functional area
-Experience developing career education and programming content to engage students in career development.
-Strategic thinker, with ability to brainstorm and collaborate with a team to develop long-term strategies that support the success of Binghamton University students
-Self-starting, creative professional with the ability to create and manage multiple projects simultaneously
-Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with students, employers, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds.
-Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write compelling career education content that engages the reader
-Must share core values of campus collaboration, high ethical standards and dedication to what is best for students, employers and Binghamton University.
Preferred:
-Master’s degree in a related field
-Experience supervising/mentoring student staff
-Strong knowledge of the education and human services field
-Knowledge of student development and career development theories
-Knowledge of a career management and higher education systems, such as Handshake, Banner, and Brightspace
