The Assistant Director of Career Preparation and Partnerships leads initiatives to support the career readiness and professional development of all Binghamton University students. This position focuses on career preparation (job search, graduate school preparation, interviewing), and overseeing faculty engagement and intentional academic partnerships across campus.

Career Preparation:

The assistant director leads effort to connect all students with the career knowledge, education and resources in order to further their success. This position will focus on programming, outreach and education related to student job searches, graduate school planning/preparation, interviewing preparation-including mock interviews. This position will also provide strategic outreach to juniors and seniors who have not used career services to provide intentional engagement. The assistant director will oversee the BigInterview platform, including the strategy behind student engagement and will also oversee the continuous improvement of the Graduate School Guide that helps students prepare for the graduate school application process.

In collaboration with the Senior Associate Director for Employer Engagement and Partnerships, the assistant director will work to integrate employers and alumni into career education for students. Our goal is to cultivate opportunities for students to make connections with employers and alumni to benefit their career goals and teach students about building a support network for themselves. This position will also support the strategy, marketing and outreach around student engagement for large scale employer events.

Academic Partnerships:

The Fleishman Center is committed to serving all students equitably, and one of the most impactful ways to do that is through the classroom. The assistant director will work in collaboration with the Senior Associate Director for Student Engagement and Career Readiness and the faculty engagement lead within the consulting team to develop initiatives and outreach to integrate career readiness into student academic experience. This position will support the efforts already established around our Career Champions event, and work to advance other initiatives: including financial stipends for faculty integration of career development.

The Assistant Director will also be responsible for managing at least 1 professional staff and graduate assistant, it will be critical for this person to have strong leadership skills.  The Assistant Director will assign workload, manage their team, and complete performance programs and evaluations for professional staff.

Core Responsibilities:

-Set goals and provide overall leadership for the job search, interviewing and graduate school programming and outreach
-Develop initiatives and approaches to engage faculty in the integration of career development in the classroom.
-Cultivate opportunities to integrate employer and alumni partners in career education and mentorship
-Provide 1:1 support to students for appointment hours including supporting walk-in services
-Serve on two career cluster teams
-Supervise at least 1 professional staff, and a graduate assistants

Requirements:

-Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

-Master’s degree in higher education or a related field and 4+ years of professional experience in career services or related functional area
-Experience developing career education and programming content to engage students in career development
-Strategic thinker, with ability to brainstorm and collaborate with a team to develop long-term strategies that support the success of Binghamton University students
-Self-starting, creative professional with the ability to create and manage multiple projects simultaneously
-Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with students, employers, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds
-Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write compelling career education content that engages the reader
-Must share core values of campus collaboration, high ethical standards and dedication to what is best for students, employers and Binghamton University

Preferred:

-Experience supervising professional staff, student staff or paraprofessional staff
-Strong knowledge and interest in faculty engagement and academic integration
-Knowledge of student development and career development theories
-Preferred knowledge of a career management and higher education systems, such as Handshake, Banner, and Brightspace
