Job Description Summary
The senior associate director for Strategic Communications plays a lead role in overseeing the creation of content for print and web to engage alumni, parents and other audiences in a way that is consistent with the university’s messaging and supports its strategic priorities. Reporting to the assistant vice president for Strategic Communications, s/he serves as the editor of Bentley Magazine, a key tool for strengthening the connection with alumni, as well as creating and editing other content. This position is a key role on the Strategic Communications team in the Division of Marketing and Communications.

Essential Duties

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the effort from concept to publication of two print magazine issues per year, overseeing writersanddesigners to ensuretheissues are published on time and within budget.
  • Generate original ideas for stories, photography,videos,illustrationsand layouts that interest alumni and keep them connected to the university while supporting the school’s overall priorities.
  • Lead the development of the magazine’sweb presence at bentley.edu/magazine.
  • Manage themagazineproduction schedule for staff and freelancers, with support from a project manager.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that the magazine content is maximizedthroughsharing on social media, in e-newsletters, and in the university’s online newsroom.
  • Review the analytics of online readership to inform planning for future issues, staying on top of trendsin higher education and beyondto continueadaptingthe magazinein new formats(online, video, audio, etc.)to matchour audiences’changing habits.
  • Serve asthecreator and/oreditor ofstories andothercontentfor the university websiteandonline magazine, in addition to the print magazine.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills, including an acute attention to grammar and spelling.
  • The ability to collaborate with and manage writers,designersand photographers.
  • At leastsevenyears of editing, writing and project management experience.
    Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to work well in a fun, collaborative team environment, including at least two days per week on the Bentley campus.
  • Work or personal experience that contributes to the institution-wide commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Work Environment

  • The Senior Associate Director works in an office setting on writing, editing and project management tasks that require significant computer use on a daily basis.
