Job Description

The Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine (http://pqhs.case.edu/) seeks to fill an instructor faculty position in computation genomics.

We are looking for motivated and creative applicants with a research background in computational genomics, to direct the Computational Biology Core. This position requires thorough knowledge of a wide variety of next-generation sequencing methods, e.g. RNA Seq, whole genome sequencing, ATAC Seq, methylation assays, microbiome (16s and metagenomics) analysis, single cell- and single nucleus analysis.  This includes experience with bioinformatic packages (eg. GATK, QIIME, CellRanger, Seurat, BWA, Tuxedo, STARAligner, QIIME) and ability to adapt and implement new software as necessary.  Knowledge of genetics/genomics and ability to manage and analyze complex data structures is also required.  Data organization and project management skills are necessary.  Candidate must be proficient with public databases (e.g. GEO, SRA, dbGAP, GDC).  Candidates will need to demonstrate mastery in working in a UNIX environment with substantial skills in computer programming and scripting languages, including Perl or Python as well as R.  Candidates must demonstrate a commitment in working with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. degree in genetics/genomics, biostatistics/bioinformatics or closely related field.  At least 5 years of post-degree experience in genomics required. Preference will be given to candidates who have run a core previously, and have strong inter-personal skills and ability to work in a team science environment. The candidate will also be very familiar with programming, and possess excellent organizational, communication and scientific writing skills.

The Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences offers research and graduate education in biostatistics and bioinformatics; genetic epidemiology; global and environmental health; health promotion and prevention; public health; health services research. The Department (http://pqhs.case.edu/) is currently growing under the leadership of the chair and the Institute for Computational Biology (http://www.icompbio.net/).
