Qualifications: A terminal degree (PhD) in Art Education or related field completed by the time of hire is required. Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience in higher education, an active teacher certification, experience mentoring and supervising preservice student teachers, and record of scholarly publications in the field of Art Education. This position requires the ability to develop and teach curriculum for a range of courses in Art Education, including courses at the undergraduate (B.F.A.), and graduate (M.A., M.A.T.) levels, to be delivered face-to-face, in hybrid form, and/or fully online. Candidates should have experience with and understanding of the breadth of scholarship in art education, contemporary art and art history, classroom teaching practice and theory, technology applications, social justice, disabilities, online and hybrid teaching, and student assessment methods. It is important that the candidate have demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in ways that address a range of learning needs and interdisciplinary practices.

Art Education at TWU: The Art Education program at TWU prepares students for EC-12 certification at the undergraduate and graduate levels and meets all of the Texas Education Agency requirements for All Level Certification in Art. The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Art Education (temporarily not accepting applicants) and the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) are joint hybrid programs with the College of Professional Education. The B.F.A. degree in Art Education shares foundational curricula with our robust studio and design programs, with facilities that offer all students a wide breadth of experience in interdisciplinary practices. The Teaching Artist Network (TAN) is the NAEA student chapter and art education student organization at TWU.

Job Requirements: We seek a colleague invested in growing as an educator, who will join us in building accessible, diverse, and inclusive curricula and creating a classroom culture, which reflects our values and mission of social justice and responsibility. With a collaborative spirit, this new colleague will have the opportunity to lead efforts in curriculum revision and instruction in the area of Art Education and support curricular projects in the Visual Arts Division and newly reorganized School of Arts and Design. Community-focused outreach, recruitment efforts, and cultivation of relationships with school districts and the College of Education are paramount to success in this position. The Division of Visual Arts highly values candidates whose research is informed by Women and Gender Studies and/or social justice-related fields in line with our new MA in Art with a concentration in Art History and Visual Culture in conjunction with TWU¿s Multicultural Women and Gender Studies program. Candidates should be dedicated to serving our diverse community including first-generation, non-traditional, LGBTQIA+, and differently abled students. The ideal candidate will be a leader in developing online curricula, instructional design, and hybrid learning methodologies and performance-based assessment processes including upcoming requirements for edTPA.

Visual Arts faculty are expected to maintain an active and independent research practice resulting in a proven record of research, exhibitions, publications, and presentations in art education, with a critical awareness of innovative practices and emerging subject areas in the field, and fulfill scholarship expectations delineated in division criteria for promotion and tenure. The faculty member’s creative and research activity should make a significant contribution to their discipline’s body of new knowledge, reflecting high standards of quality; and must regularly share the results of that activity in respected national and international venues and formats.

All faculty are expected to serve the Division’s goals and teach in ways that support interdisciplinary approaches, hybrid formats, conceptual rigor, and collaboration. We seek a colleague invested in growing as an educator, who will join us in building accessible, diverse, and inclusive curricula, developing a classroom culture, which reflects our values and mission of social justice and responsibility. The colleague will demonstrate a commitment to thoughtful engagement with the diverse TWU student population.
